The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) – Houston Chapter is a national organization with a mission to advance the aerospace profession. The local AIAA Houston section consists of 871 paid members that reside in the following counties in the state of Texas: Anderson, Angelina, Austin, Brazoria, Brazos, Burleson, Chambers, Cherokee, Fort Bend, Galveston, Grimes, Hardin, Harris, Houston, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Madison, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Newton, Orange, Polk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Shelby, Trinity, Tyler, Walker, Waller, and Washington. At least 112 members of the AIAA Houston section have self-identified themselves as employees of the NASA JSC community. 

The club advances the aerospace profession with the following efforts:

  • Providing opportunities for continuing education and professional growth
  • Promoting the exchange of information within the scientific and technical community
  • Leading and participating in and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) outreach initiatives to encourage students’ career pursuits in these fields
  • Being a liaison to the general public in understanding the benefits of aerospace systems and technology
