Self Defense Class

Hopefully, it will never be needed, but it can save your life if you know what to do in certain situations.

In this two-part class, you will learn:

  • Situational awareness and risk mitigation to ideally avoid any dangerous situation that you might find yourself in.
  • Basic techniques: strikes, defensive blocks, key targets, how to escape typical grabs and choke holds, and when to use certain engagement strategies.
  • Options on ways to continue to practice these skills so they are not forgotten.

Dates & Time:

  • Part 1: July 18th, 4:30 – 6:30 PM
  • Part 2: July 25th, 4:30 – 6:30 PM

  • Energy Lab @ NASA Starport / Gilruth Center

Cost: for both classes

  • $49 Early Registration -> June 24 – July 11,2024
  • $59 Late Registration -> July 12-18, 2024

    About the Instructors:

    Charles Awwad

    Charles started training in martial arts at 5 years old in Shotokan karate. He has been involved in martial arts training and teaching most of his life.

    Charles has trained in the following disciplines of martial arts:

    • Shotokan karate (SKIF recognized), earned his black belt
    • Taekwondo (WT recognized), 4th degree black belt (master)
    • Muay thai, earned his mongkol
    • Krav Hagannah
    • Modern arnis
    • Aikido
    • Judo
    • BJJ. Purple belt

    Charles is also an assistant instructor at the NASA TKD club.

    Tess Caswell

    Tess has studied martial arts for twenty years and is trained in the following disciplines of martial arts:

    • Sei Shin Kai Aikido, earned her black belt
    • Kokikai Aikido, earned her black belt
    • Taekwondo, purple belt
