Fitness and Wellness Manager

Your Role in the Mission
As the Fitness and Wellness Manager, you’ll lead fitness and wellness operations at the Gilruth Center, develop strategic wellness initiatives, and build partnerships with NASA leaders and the JSC community. Your impact will directly support the health and engagement of this exceptional workforce.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Operations:
- Manage daily operations, including group fitness, personal training, fitness assessments, and special events.
- Recruit, hire, and supervise 2 full-time, 4 part-time, and ~10 contract employees.
- Develop and implement strategic wellness and fitness goals in collaboration with NASA leadership.
- Cascades new information about all Starport service areas to the Customer Service team members regularly to ensure information flow
- Develops and trains team members
- Consistently recognizes and rewards great performance through the use of goal setting and incentives
- Provides coaching and feedback to build competency of team members
- Maintains strong and consistent people practices with all teammates, taking appropriate action as needed
- Partners with retail manager to maintain the ShopNASA gift shop embedded within the lobby of the Gilruth Center
- Strategy & Budgeting:
- Develop the overall strategic goals and program plan for the integration and promotion of fitness and workplace health promotion services and activities at the JSC in collaboration
- Develop corporate partnership in an effort to meet fiscal and engagement goals.
- Organize annual calendar of workplace health promotion initiatives to ensure all events, programs, and special events are implemented in a consistent and timely manner
- Analyze Starport membership trends to identify growth opportunities, including engaging JSC employees, spouses, and dependents. Develop promotions, host info sessions, and gather feedback to enhance offerings and boost participation.
- Track profit and losses and review accuracy of reports on expenditures, forecasting, and wellness metrics.
- Analyzes business trends and data to assess and improve club performance, both operationally and financially.
- Balance both philanthropic (free) programs and initiatives with revenue generating programs and initiatives
- Community Engagement:
- Develop and expand outreach, awareness, and wellness programs, including fitness challenges and health education such as running clubs/programs, HIIT programs, fitness/weight loss challenges, virtual programming, lunch and learns, partnering with the Employee Assistance Program on wellness sessions
- Cultivate relationships with JSC’s employee base and contractor workforce to understand needs of the workforce and scale programs accordingly
- Serve as the community liaison and collaborate with local JSC and corporate partners on wellness best practices and initiatives
- Partner with senior leadership and representatives from NASA Headquarters, Employee Assistance Program, Occupational Medicine, and Health and Human Performance as needed
- Marketing & Communication:
- Promote programs through social media, internal advertising, and strategic
- Develop communication strategies to educate and engage the JSC community.
- campaigns.
- Safety & Facility Management:
- Ensure compliance with NASA safety standards
- Keep the facility clean, safe, and in good repair
- Track and maintain staff training is update to date
- What You Bring to the Team
- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
- ACSM, NASM, NSCA or ACE certification required
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification required
- At least 5 years of experience in wellness and fitness, with 3+ years in management.
- Expertise in fitness, nutrition, or stress management, along with strong leadership skills.
- Experience with program development, facility management, and budget oversight.
- A passion for building relationships, solving challenges, and inspiring change.
- Other Requirements
- Must possess a valid drivers license
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check
- Regular lifting up to 50 lbs. and ability to perform physical activities for extended periods.
- May be responsible for working weekends and evenings based on organizational need
- The higher end of the salary range applies if the candidate has significant experience overseeing larger programs and/or multiple clubs
What Makes This Opportunity Unique
This job does not regularly require long or irregular hours, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays. Although metrics will be embedded with the job, there are no aggressive targets for membership sign-ups, personal training packages, or programming either.
