Irish Dance

Learn the age old art of Irish step dancing at the Gilruth Center. Irish dance refers to the traditional dance forms (solo and group forms) that originate in Ireland for social, competitive and performance purposes. Irish Stepdance, which is practiced competitively across many cultural backgrounds is characterized by the rigid upper body and intricate footwork of its performers. You’ll have fun and get in shape at the same time while learning Irish Dance at Starport. Classes are available for Adults and Kids (ages 6 and up). Step it up with Irish Dance!

About the Instructor:

Richard Tew is a Regional Champion Irish Dancer, Choreographer, and Irish Dance Instructor.  He has been dancing this centuries-old dance for over 25 years and teaching for more than 17. He is a member of the world-wide organization,  An Chomhdhail (pronounced an co-gal), which means the congress of Irish dance teachers. The organization teaches the Irish language, Irish dance music, and the culture and the history behind the dances. Richard is committed to preserving all the traditions of Irish culture and is now excited to bring this age-old art form of Irish dance to you and your family.
