Applicant Requirements

  • EITHER:
    • High School student in Puerto Rico studying 11th or 12th grade at the time of application. Priority will be given to those students in the Public School system. 
    • Active university student in Puerto Rico at the time of application. The in-person component will be offered to science students from the Interamerican University, first generation students, and students who by the end of May 2024 have approved 40 credits or less. The virtual component will be offered for any student enrolled in a university in Puerto Rico.
  • US Citizen
  • Fluency in Spanish, conversational/intermediate ability in English
  • Have a great interest in marine sciences and NASA technologies! 

Application Materials 

Please note that the application form will not save your progress. Please have the components ready to submit when the application is opened, or be prepared to complete the requirements in one sitting.

  • A 500-word interest essay in Spanish or English. It will be submitted via the application form and you must answer the following questions within the essay.
    • Why are you interested in learning about NASA technologies applied to marine sciences?
    • Tell us about a situation you faced and how you resolved it. (Note: This question does not necessarily have to be tied to something in the Sciences)What do you hope to learn from this internship opportunity?
    • Describe the strengths that make you a good candidate to participate in our marine internship.
  • An unofficial credit transcript from your school. It will be delivered through the application form. If your institution cannot directly deliver the transcript to you, they can send it directly before the deadline to oceanos.pr.sre@gmail.com  
  • A one-page CV or resume.
