Holding Space for Science: 100K Hours of Microgravity Science Glovebox
On June 9, 2026, the Microgravity Science Glovebox (MSG) aboard the International Space Station reached 100,000 hours of operation since its installation in the Destiny Module in 2002! This crucial laboratory facility consists of an enclosed area with the capability of accommodating experiments of many different disciplines, including those with hazardous components like bacteria and reactive chemicals. Equipped with arm inserts, this facility allows safe hands-on execution of experiments while keeping astronauts and the surrounding area free from contamination. In recognition of the facility’s milestone, check out this MSG image gallery highlighting science and scientists throughout its 100,000 hours of holding space for science.
