PromISS-3 crystal experiment sample in MSG

iss008e18236 (Mar. 3, 2004) --- A close-up sample of the PromISS-3 experiment aboard the International Space Station. This investigation, conducted in the Microgravity Science Glovebox (MSG), aimed to visualize the protein crystal growth process using a digital holographic microscope and MSG video capabilities. Protein crystals grown in space are more uniform and larger than those grown in Earth’s gravity, allowing scientists to better study their structures to create new and improved medicines.
