Ground Systems Integration Manager, Exploration Ground Systems

Darrell R. Foster is the ground systems integration manager for NASA’s Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) Program at John F. Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. Appointed to the position in October 2018, he leads the EGS Program’s design, development and operational readiness of KSC ground systems and infrastructure to meet critical launch processing requirements for Space Launch System, Orion and other NASA spacecraft. 

Experience

Foster began his NASA career in 1991 as a facilities project engineer. He has served in influential leadership roles in flight programs, including the International Space Station Program, Launch Service Program, Orbital Space Plane Program, Ground Systems Development and Operations Program and KSC Center Operations Directorate. In addition to KSC, Foster also served in extended stints working on projects at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and multiple leadership assignments at NASA Headquarters.

Over his diverse tenure with NASA, he has developed an extensive working knowledge of launch vehicle/spacecraft integration and operations, and has in-depth expertise in KSC ground infrastructure as well as government contracting.

Awards

Foster’s leadership has been recognized with professional awards, such as the Space Flight Awareness Management Award and the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal.

Education

Foster graduated from Florida Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering and obtained a Master of Science in engineering management from the University of Central Florida. Foster also has completed advanced leadership education courses at the Office of Personnel Management’s Center for Leadership Development and Georgetown Government Affairs Institute.

Personal

Foster is very active in the lay leadership of his local church. He lives in Rockledge, Fla., with his wife, Linda, and their two sons.
