Reed B. Divertie is chief of Communications and Telemetry in the Ground System Integration Branch with the Launch Services Program (LSP) at NASA’s John F. Kennedy Space Center in Florida. He leads a team that works on Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Hangar AE and Vandenburg Space Force Base in Building 836. His responsibilities include technical direction, contractor evaluations, contract negotiations, team management, project management, fiscal management, mission support, and stakeholder engagement.
He is responsible for the overall technical direction and authority within the communications and telemetry field, providing guidance, expertise, and decision-making on technical matters related to communication systems, telemetry support operations, and information technology services. Divertie also is involved in complex projects related to the installation, maintenance, modification, and operation of systems used in data acquisition. He ensures that communication and telemetry systems are functioning effectively, providing the necessary data and support for successful mission operations.
Experience
Divertie began his career with NASA at Kennedy in June 2009 and has worked in various LSP positions. Prior to his current role, he was lead of the communication systems at Hangar AE and Building 836.
Awards
He is the recipient of a Space Flight Awareness Award in 2013 for his work as communications lead engineer on the Mars Science Laboratory, and a NASA Foundations of Leadership award in 2012.
Education
Divertie attended the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he received a Bachelor of Science in computer engineering in 2007, and a master’s degree in management in 2008.
Personal
Divertie considers Jacksonville, Florida, his hometown. He resides in Orlando with his wife, Becky, and their two children, Remi, and Rhett. They have a cat named Sophie.
Divertie’s hobbies include sailing, playing ultimate frisbee, running, and watching NFL football, though his favorite interest is being a dad to his children.
