White Sands Test Facility

NASA’s White Sands Test Facility (WSTF), located on the west slope of the San Andres mountains between Las Cruces, New Mexico and the White Sands Missile Range, is a component of the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.

Overview

WSTF’s role is to conduct hazardous testing, primarily in support of NASA’s Human Space Flight programs.  WSTF’s test activities are focused around six core capabilities:  Rocket propulsion testing; Oxygen system materials and component testing and analysis; Hypervelocity micrometeoroid and orbital debris impact testing; Composite pressure systems testing and analysis; Aerospace fluids testing and analysis; and Flight acceptance standard testing.  Propulsion testing conducted at WSTF is focused around in-space propulsion systems and hypergolic propellants.  WSTF operates ambient test capabilities up to 160,000 lbf thrust and vacuum test capabilities up to 25,000 lbf thrust.  WSTF provides test services to NASA, DoD, other government agencies, and private industry.  The remote location and moderate climate are ideal for conducting year-round test activities.
