Mission Manager, Commercial Crew Program, Mission Management & Integration Office

Brian Berry is a mission manager in the Mission Management and Integration Office of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program (CCP) at the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. In this role, he ensures mission readiness and certification prior to launch, and coordinates real-time operations for the CCP Mission Support Team throughout the mission. This includes dry dress rehearsal, launch, docking, docked period at the International Space Station, undocking, and return. Berry is the mission manager for NASA’s SpaceX Crew-8 mission.

Experience

Prior to joining the Mission Management and Integration Office, Berry was the lead SpaceX NASA Recovery Director (NRD) on the Ground and Mission Ops team. He ensured readiness and certification of SpaceX recovery operations and led the NASA Landing Recovery Team, supporting recovery operations on the SpaceX vessels. Berry joined NASA in 2008 as a space station flight controller at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.

As an operations support officer, he was responsible for maintenance and repairs on the International Space Station, vehicle outfitting, and management of the crew systems equipment. In addition to working in the Mission Control Center, his team trained astronauts on effective maintenance practices and techniques before their mission.

Education/Awards

A 2008 graduate of Arizona State University, Berry earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering. His NASA honors include a Commercial Crew Unsung Hero Award and a Silver Achievement Medal.

Personal

Berry and his wife met as space station flight controllers at Johnson. They were married at the Grand Canyon in 2017 and are raising their two boys in Viera, Florida.
