AdVECT: Additive Vehicle-Embedded Cooling Technologies

ESI22 Sobhani Quadchart

We pursue additive manufacturing of complex high-temperature and corrosion-resistant ceramic cooling systems suitable for space nuclear power sources. Exceeding current operating conditions by applying ceramics, which provide excellent size-to-weight payoffs and enable advanced coolants, will contribute to reduced weight and improved performance in thermal management systems. Additive Manufacturing (AM) is a powerful approach to production that enables novel design paradigms such as radically enhanced geometric complexity and seamless integrations. Our research approach combines AM, X-ray imaging, thermal analysis, vacuum chamber testing, and structural optimization for strength and weight in creating integrated heat rejection networks.
