Sidney Nakahodo: Engaging the private sector in NewSpace activities

Sidney Nakahodo, cofounder and CEO of the New York Space Alliance, shared lessons about fostering a NewSpace ecosystem through innovative public-private partnership schemes in the context of a soon-to-be announced Space Act Agreement.

Biography:
Sidney N. Nakahodo is a leading authority in space entrepreneurship, and cofounder and CEO of the New York Space Alliance (NYSA), a platform that empowers space entrepreneurs through mentorship, advising, investment, and community support. In parallel to his commercial space and entrepreneurial activities, he is active in the academic setting as part of the Columbia University faculty. He is a former fellow and faculty at Singularity University, and currently holds the position of Ambassador for SU in New York City. Previously he served as a member of the World Bank staff in Washington DC, working with private sector development and carbon finance initiatives and consulted for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). He started his career as an engineer in the advanced materials division of a multinational corporation. Sidney holds a Masters of International Affairs from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) and a B. Eng. in Materials Engineering from the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil). He is also a graduate of Singularity University’s Global Solutions Program, which he attended on a Google-sponsored scholarship, and the Kiel Institute’s Advanced Studies Program in International Economic Policy (Germany). Sidney speaks Portuguese and Spanish, is conversant in French and Italian, and has basic knowledge of German.
