About Transformative Aeronautics Concepts Program (TACP)

Contents

Transformative Aeronautics Concepts Program graphic.

TACP solicits and encourages revolutionary concepts, creates the environment for researchers to experiment with new ideas, performs ground and small-scale flight tests, allows failures and learns from them, and drives rapid turnover into potential future concepts to enable aviation transformation. Research is organized to aggressively engage both the traditional aeronautics community and non-traditional partners. Although TACP focuses on sharply focused studies, the program provides flexibility for innovators to assess new-technology feasibility and provide the knowledge base for radical aeronautics advance.

Vision

“Aviation is transformed”

Mission

Cultivate concept and capabilities that inspire new solution paths, enable innovative design, and lead to breakthrough technologies that transform aviation.

Goal

Cultivate concepts and technologies in all thrusts to enable aviation transformation.

Objectives

Support and challenge strategic & tactical planning via early convergent innovation

Advance the strategic thrusts by providing transformative capabilities within single disciplines and at system-level

Approach

  • Provide environment to explore feasibility.
  • Explore never-done-before tools
  • Invest in advanced technologies
  • Challenge the internal and external communities
  • Promote converging advancements in aeronautics and non-aeronautics sectors
  • Accept technical risk when potential exists for performance break-through
  • Utilize Technical Challenges and other activities
