Media are invited to a virtual media day on Tuesday, Aug. 15 at 8:00-9:00 AM PST to learn about NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center’s ALOFT mission in collaboration with the University of Bergen, Norway.

NASA will host a one-hour webinar on the ALOFT mission, Airborne Lightning Observatory for Fly’s eye simulator and Terrestrial gamma rays, which investigates lightning glows and terrestrial gamma ray flashes.  NASA Armstrong’s ER-2 aircraft flies just above the height of thunderclouds over the Floridian and Caribbean coastlines, and scientists expect to collect more accurate data that can advance the study of high-energy radiation emissions from thunderstorms.

As part of this one-hour webinar, participants will have the opportunity to interview panelists, including:

  • Timothy Lang, Principal Investigator, Atmospheric Measurements at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center
  • Nikolai Ostgaard, Principal Investigator, Leader of Birkeland Centre for Space Science, University of Bergen, Norway
  • Mason Quick, Deputy Project Scientist, Earth Science at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center

To participate in this virtual media day, media must send their full name, affiliation, and email by 5:00AM PST on Tuesday, Aug. 15 to Erica Heim at: erica.heim@nasa.gov.  NASA will email additional details about the webinar after confirmations of attendance.
