Spencer Johnston transitioned into Game Changing Development’s Program in October 2021. He previously served as the Branch Head of the Systems Integration and Test Branch, which is responsible for environmental testing including contamination control and mechanical assembly and integration of spaceflight hardware.
During his 30-year span at NASA, Spencer gained hands-on experience in a variety of project teams including Advanced Composite Project, Launch Abort System, Navigation Doppler Lidar, Mars Entry, Descent, and Landing Instrumentation 2, Radiation Budget Instrument, and the Materials International Space Station Experiment. Spencer proudly started his career in NASA Langley Research Center’s apprenticeship program, where he was a wind tunnel technician and later transitioned a design engineer, then systems engineer, and, finally, branch manager. He has held roles of Integration Lead, Requirement and Verification Manger, Operations and Integration Lead, and Lead Systems Engineer.
Spencer graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with a concentration in Physics from Christopher Newport University and a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management from George Washington University. Spencer’s hobbies and interests include spending time with family supporting their interests (endurance horse riding – 50 to 100 miles – , soccer, and CrossFit competitions), enjoying nature, and home improvement projects.
