Ajitkumar Mulavara

Associate Element Scientist, Human Factors and Behavioral Performance

Ajitkumar Mulavara’s career includes serving as a neuroscientist for the Human Factors and Behavioral Performance element’s Central Nervous System, Behavioral Medicine, and Sensorimotor Project. He previously worked as a research scientist for the Human Health and Performance directorate’s Biomedical Research and Environmental Sciences Division. There, he helped characterize and mitigate risks associated with exposure of the central nervous system to spaceflight hazards. 

Mulavara has served as the team lead for sensorimotor adaptation with the National Space Biomedical Research Institute, centered at Baylor College of Medicine. He has held appointments at the Universities Space Research Association, Wyle Laboratories, and Krug Life Sciences during his tenure at the Neuroscience Laboratories at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. He also contributed to research and technology endeavors, assuming the role of principal investigator and co-investigator for several flight and ground-based studies.

Mulavara holds a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Mumbai in India, and a master’s degree and doctorate in biomedical engineering from the University of Akron in Ohio.
