The Engineering Management Board (EMB) is a leadership team to provide advice, counsel, and make recommendations for consideration by the Chief Engineer relating to maintaining and improving all aspects of the Agency’s engineering capability in order to ensure engineering excellence within NASA.

  • The EMB is a subordinate governance body, aligned to the Agency Program Management Council (APMC). The EMB provides recommendations and advice to the APMC.
  • The EMB provides guidance for development, coordination, review, assessment, and deployment of Agency engineering capabilities and engineering activities related to policies, standards, methods, and training.
  • The EMB continually evaluates Agency engineering capabilities relative to its missions and makes recommendations for consideration by Agency councils relating to maintaining and improving all aspects of the Agency’s engineering capabilities in order to ensure the Agency strategically invests in the capabilities necessary to meet its current and future missions.
  • The EMB evaluates the Agency’s top engineering risks and mitigation plans and recommends additional actions.
  • The EMB serves as a focus for continual improvement of engineering activities within NASA through the continuous capture, dissemination, and utilization of corporate knowledge gleaned through internal Agency activities, as well as through benchmarking activities of external organizations.
