    William Shepherd served as commander of Expedition 1. Selected by NASA in 1984 to be an astronaut, Shepherd was also a mission specialist on three previous space shuttle missions.

    Flight Engineer Sergei Krikalev

    Sergei Krikalev served as flight engineer for Expedition 1. He later visited the International Space Station again and served as commander of Expedition 11.

    Flight Engineer Yuri Gidzenko

    Yuri Gidzenko served as Soyuz commander and flight engineer during Expedition 1. Gidzenko again visited the International Space Station in April 2002 aboard the Soyuz TM-34 vehicle logging an additional 9 days and 21 hours in space.
