This artist map of the Milky Way shows the location of one of the farthest known exoplanets, lying 13,000 light-years away. Most of the thousands of exoplanets discovered to date are closer to our solar system, as indicated by the pink/orange areas.

A transmission spectrum made from a single observation using Webb’s Near-Infrared Imager and Slitless Spectrograph (NIRISS) reveals atmospheric characteristics of the hot gas giant exoplanet WASP-96 b.

The filters on NASA's Roman Space Telescope Coronagraph Instrument's Color Filter Assembly each block all but a specific wavelength of light. Many of the filters appear dark in this photo because they are transparent only to infrared light.
