Autonomous Systems Fact Sheet

NASA Platform for Autonomous Systems (NPAS)

NPAS is powerful software toolkit created by the NASA Stennis Autonomous Systems Laboratory.

What is NPAS?

The NASA Platform for Autonomous Systems (NPAS) project is maturing autonomous systems technology to help close the highest priority technology capability gaps and support Moon to Mars missions.

What does NPAS do?

Uses distributed autonomy capabilities to address technology capability gaps associated with autonomous systems.

Uses comprehensive models (digital twins/structure/behavior) and Concepts of Operations for awareness/visibility into autonomy decisions/processes.

NPAS Goals

Enable Earth-Independent Operations.

Reduce burden on crew for maintenance, troubleshooting, planning, scheduling, mission management and resource management to help re-optimize crew time during missions, such as allowing more time for science missions.
