Image Detective

View from ISS looking down at Earth.

Description

Image Detective provides an opportunity for users to help contribute to the NASA Database of astronaut photos of Earth taken from space.  This opportunity asks users to match up astronaut photos to exact locations on Earth, list the geographic features visible in each image, and provide an estimate of cloud coverage within the image.  As astronauts take images from space everyday, the number of images in our database is over 3 million and growing!  User contributions within Image Detective will be used to add descriptive metadata to previously unexamined images within our online database, making those images more easily searchable and useful to the scientific community and the public.
