Ryan Scott Named Space Biosciences Star of the Month!
The NASA Ames Science Directorate has recognized Ryan T. Scott as a Space Biosciences Star of the Month for July 2024. This accolade is a testament to his exceptional dedication and work supporting the Open Science Data Repository (OSDR) as the Science Lead for the Ames Life Sciences Data Archive (ALSDA). Ryan, a scientist in the Space Biosciences Research Branch, helped lead the integration of ALSDA data into the GeneLab data systems to form OSDR in 2021. Under his guidance, decades of space life sciences data were standardized and harmonized for open access to the scientific community.
Ryan also serves as the liaison between ODSR and the Open Science Analysis Working Groups (AWGs). In this position, he initiated and led the incorporation of a forum space for AWG members to network and promote transparency surrounding ongoing projects, meetings, and publications. Ryan chairs the ALSDA AWG, where over the past two years he has guided the efforts of over 200 members to design assay metadata configurations for collecting and harmonizing physiological, phenotypic, behavioral, and other space life sciences datasets. His leadership and expertise have been instrumental in the success of OSDR.
One of Ryan’s most recent achievements is his significant contribution to the Space Omics and Medical Atlas (SOMA) Nature publication package, representing the largest-ever collection of data for aerospace medicine and space biology. Ryan co-authored 10 out of 45 papers in the package, and led the integration of Inspiration 4 civilian astronaut biomedical data into OSDR through the standardization of several new assay metadata configurations. These accomplishments not only highlight Ryan’s hard work but also underscore the incredible potential and impact of our collective efforts in advancing space biosciences.
Please join me in congratulating Ryan on this well-deserved recognition!
