
Andrew Carnell
Director, Aircraft Capability Management Office (Acting)
Andrew (Andy) Carnell is the Director (Acting) of the Aircraft Capability Management Office (ACMO) within the Mission Support Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Carnell is responsible for the centralized management and strategic planning of NASA aircraft capability and capacity, and the efficient use of NASA aviation related resources. As the agency’s Senior Aviation Management Official, he provides functional leadership and support to the NASA Administrator.
Previously, Carnell served as the Deputy Director of ACMO. Prior to 2023, he was the Chief of Staff at NASA Langley Research Center. He joined NASA in 2015 and has served as a systems engineer at both Langley and Johnson Space Center in support of aeronautics and spaceflight missions.
Before joining NASA, Carnell worked for the Department of Defense (DOD) for over two decades. He is a decorated combat veteran with eight years of active duty as a Naval Flight Officer flying F-14s and FA-18s, including two deployments to the Middle East and one tour as a Top Gun instructor. After the Navy, Andy continued to work for the DOD as a consultant on projects ranging from aircraft data links to airfield infrastructure.
