The NASA Small Business Advocates Awards recognize outstanding efforts in developing and implementing innovative practices in support of the Agency’s small business program. Sponsored by the Office of Small Business Programs (OSBP), these annual awards acknowledge the contributions made by NASA civil servant personnel throughout the Agency.

Criteria

The Small Business Advocates Awards (SBAA) are presented in the categories listed below with associated criteria. Disclaimer: All significant NASA Small Business Advocates Awards nomination activity should occur during the review period.

Small Business Specialist of the Year Criteria

  1. Impact on Center Small Business Program. Demonstrate and discuss three (3) of the five (5) elements below. Notate the corresponding element number in the write-up.
    • Participated in Agency small business outreach events.
    • Participated in Agency small business training opportunities
    • Attended and actively participated in Agency-level Small Business Specialist Council meetings (e.g., Presentation of Center Deep Dive; led breakout group; briefed group on relevant small business initiative or issue, etc.)
    • Participated on Center industry council.
    • Submitted End-year NASA Small Business Program Report completed and on time.
  2. Impact on Center Mission. Discuss the impact of the program and assistance provided, such as quality and health of program, use of technology/social media and/or cost savings for the Center mission.
  3. Innovative Methodologies. Discuss any innovative methodologies utilized to achieve the results stated in Criterion 1.

Small Business Technical Advisor/Coordinator of the Year Criteria

  1. Innovative Methodologies. Discuss any innovative methodologies that the Center Technical Advisor or Center Technical Small Business Coordinator supported, developed, implemented, or initiated to maximize opportunities and/or increase spend to small businesses. Demonstrate and discuss two (2) of the four (4) elements below. Notate the corresponding element number in the write-up.
    • Discuss any innovative methodologies utilized to achieve the results.
    • Discuss in-reach at the Center to include but not limited to the Small Business Technical Advisor, Small Business Technical Coordinator, or Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer Program.
    • Discuss assistance provided to Center Small Business Specialist and Procurement Center Representative assigned to the Center.
    • Discuss participation in NASA Small Business outreach efforts and level of participation (e.g., presenter, matchmaking, exhibitor, etc.).
  2. Impact on Center’s Small Business Program. Discuss the impact of Criterion 1 on the Center’s Small Business Program.

Procurement Person (or Team) of the Year Criteria

  1. Impact on NASA’s Small Business Program.
    • Discuss small business contract award(s) with emphasis on WOSBs, HUBZones, and SDVOSBs.
    • Discuss participation in Small Business outreach and market research.
  2. Impact on NASA’s Mission. Discuss the impact of the program and assistance provided, such as increased use of technology and/or cost savings for the NASA mission.
  3. Innovative Methodologies. Discuss any innovative methodologies utilized to achieve the results stated in Criterion 1.
  4. Outreach and Training. Discuss participation in Agency/Center-level and other outreach, in-reach, and small business training and/or events.

Technical Person (or Team) of the Year Criteria

  1. Impact on NASA’s Small Business Program.
    • Discuss small business contract award(s) with emphasis on WOSBs, HUBZones, and SDVOSBs.
    • Discuss participation in Small Business outreach and market research.
  2. Impact on NASA’s Mission. Discuss the impact of the program and assistance provided, such as increased use of technology and/or cost savings for the NASA mission.
  3. Innovative Methodologies. Discuss any innovative methodologies utilized to achieve the results.
  4. Outreach and Training. Discuss participation in Agency/Center-level and other outreach, in-reach, and small business training and/or events.

Program/Science/Research and Development Person (or Team) of the Year Criteria

  1. Impact on NASA’s Small Business Program as an individual or team. Discuss how the individual or team positively affected change, a process or outcome in the nomination’s year.
  2. Impact on the Center Program Mission, Science or Research and Development. Discuss the Center Program management/processes and impact of the assistance provided, such as quality and health of the program, use of technology/social media and/or cost savings for the Center’s mission.
  3. Innovative Methodologies. Discuss any innovative methodologies utilized to achieve the results stated in Criterion 1 and participation in NASA sponsored/hosted Small Business outreach.
  4. Outreach and Training. Discuss participation in Agency/Center-level and other outreach, in-reach, and small business training and/or events.
