NASA’s IV&V Facility to Hold Annual Charity Auction

The NASA Independent Verification and Validation Facility will be conducting its annual charity auction at a holiday luncheon today at the ISR building. The luncheon begins at noon, and the auction will follow at about 1:00. Muriales Restaurant is catering the luncheon for NASA Civil Servants and Partner Contractors.

Each year NASA federal and contractor employees donate items so that SANTA can auction them off to their colleagues. The bidding is brisk and competitive for household items..(perhaps useful and perhaps not-so-useful). Included among the items brought in by NASA employees this year are gift certificates for rounds of golf at Tygert Valley Golf Course; certificates donated by the Waterfront Hotel; and, Muriales will not only feed the bidders but will provide a gift certificate to be auctioned off as well.

NASA civil service and contractor participation at the auction requires a donation of non perishable food or cash donation for local Salvation Army food pantries and the proceeds of the auction are donated to the Mon, Taylor, Marion and Harrison County Salvation Armies.

NASA’s  generosity to local charities this year has extended to Scott’s Run adopt-a-family for Christmas; cash donations and warm winter wear donations to the Bartlett House; and a successful Combined Federal Campaign that offers the NASA federal employees the opportunity to make donations to their favorite local and national charities through payroll deductions and one-time gifts. This year’s campaign resulted in one of the highest percentages of federal agency organizational participation and average giving nationwide. Sixty-three percent of NASA IV&V’s civil service employees participated in the campaign, donating an incredible average of $637.00 per person.  More than half of the donations made to the Combined Federal Campaign by local NASA employees went to charities in the local communities in which they live.
