NASA Astronauts, Scientists Bring Wonder of Space Station to Bay Area

NASA astronauts, engineers and scientists will visit the San Francisco Bay Area from June 7-10 to share the accomplishments, promise and opportunities for research aboard the International Space Station.
Veteran astronauts Michael Barratt and Stephen Bowen will share their stories about life working and living in space. Space station scientist Kirt Costello and Cynthia Bouthot, Center for Advancement of Science in Space’s (CASIS) director of commercial innovation, also will participate in activities during the week.

NASA will participate in the Bio International Conference June 7-9 at the Moscone Convention Center, San Francisco. NASA’s Driven to Explore exhibit will be available for viewing from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. PDT each day. Barratt will participate in several lecture series throughout the conference, including meeting a group of local high school students.
On June 10, Bowen will meet with the public and legislative leaders at NASA’s Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, California, about 40 miles south of San Francisco. The NASA Driven to Explore exhibit will be open from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. for a free public outreach event. Ames researchers also will be on hand to showcase the center’s prominent biology research and technology demonstrations on the space station.

NASA astronauts and staff will interact with the public via social media channels using the hashtag #NASAinSFO during the week. Social media users are encouraged to tag @NASA_Johnson, @ISS_Research, @ISS_CASIS, @NASA_Astronauts and @NASAAmes.
