“Meet the Authors”: Insights on Immune and Host Systems for Moon & Mars Missions
“Meet the Authors” encourages conversations between researchers and a broad public ranging from students, early career scientists, academics, industry professionals, and more. In this virtual interview panel session, four authors will present their publications, answer moderator questions, and address questions from the audience.
This session which took place on September 4, 2025 featured Dr Juan Pablo de Rivera Vaccari from the University of Miami, Dr Emmanuel Gonzalez of McGill University, Dr JangKeun Kim of Weill Cornell Medicine, and Dr Fei Wu of Buck Institute, who spoke on the following publications:
- Single-cell multi-ome and immune profiles of the Inspiration4 crew reveal conserved, cell-type, and sex-specific responses to spaceflight
- Single-cell analysis identifies conserved features of immune dysfunction in simulated microgravity and spaceflight
- Spaceflight alters host-gut microbiota interactions
- Effects of Space Flight on Inflammasome Activation in the Brain of Mice
The discussions in this session highlighted new perspectives and raised questions that might otherwise be taken for granted, offering attendees a deeper look into the complexities of human health in space. By pointing to how future studies could build on the authors’ results, the event opened possibilities for fresh insights and underscored opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.
“Meet the Authors” provides audiences with a unique opportunity to engage directly with research leaders, actively participate in discussions, and ask questions during the interviews.
