A team of engineers at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C., stands behind the instrument they built — the Michelson Interferometer for Global High-resolution Thermospheric Imaging, or MIGHTI, instrument – for NASA’s ICON mission. MIGHTI observes the winds in the neutral atmosphere to watch how they drive the motions of the charged particles in space.
