A 100-pound liquid oxygen/liquid methane engine fires up after NASA Glenn’s Altitude Combustion Stand (ACS) was reactivated recently. This facility is designed to test rocket engines and engine components at up to two thousand pounds of thrust.
Depending on the size of the engines, they can fire from sea level to simulated environments of altitudes up to 100,000 feet or more.
ACS is currently gearing up to test igniter components for Mars lander systems and green propellant thrusters for aerospace applications.
