Transforming How We Fly

NASA transforms the way we fly.

Nearly every aircraft flying and air traffic management system now in use includes NASA-supported technologies that improve efficiency and safety.

NASA’s vision for aeronautics expands on that legacy by fully integrating into aviation advances in other industries and parts of the economy to meet the future demands for global mobility in ways we can only begin to imagine today.

NASA’s research is focused in six areas: safe, efficient growth in global operations; innovation in commercial supersonic aircraft that could lead to permission for supersonic flight over land; ultra-efficient commercial aircraft with big leaps in efficiency and environmental performance; transition to low-carbon propulsion for aircraft; real-time, system-wide safety monitoring and assurance system that can detect and predict safety problems; and tools that lead to higher levels of automation and autonomy across the aviation system.
