Title: Integrated Test Facility (ITF)
Designer: Unknown
Year it was designed: circa 1992
Explanation or story behind the patch: About five years after its groundbreaking, the 120,000-square-foot Integrated Test facility (ITF) opened on 24 October 1992, at a total cost of $22.5 million. The ITF not only curtailed much of the time-consuming process of manual checkouts of new aircraft and components, but its computer simulations and diagnostics also reported the interactions of such systems as flight controls, electrical circuitry, and avionics before an aircraft ever took to the air. After November 1995, the ITF became known as the Walter C. Williams Research Aircraft Integration Facility (RAIF), in honor of the Center’s first director.
