NASA celebrates Manufacturing Day! The agency and the aerospace community have deep roots in manufacturing technology and innovation. Advanced manufacturing is critical to all NASA missions. The Space Tech Advanced Manufacturing Technologies (AMT) project develops and matures innovative, low-cost manufacturing processes and products including: metallic joining, additive, composites, and digital manufacturing. NASA also supports the National Manufacturing Initiative, collaborating with other government agencies to keep America at the cutting edge of manufacturing. Pictured (starting clockwise at the top) is laser additive manufacturing, the NASA 3D printer developed by Made in Space, the first ever 5.5-meter diameter Composite Cryogenic Propellant Tank, and a partial bulk metallic glass gearbox designed for next generation rovers like Curiosity.
