Established in 1966 by the Manned Space Flight Network to support the Apollo Program, the Merritt Island Launch Annex (MILA) at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) provided communications for launches during the first four minutes following launches. Prior to MILA's retirement in 2011, eleven antennas operated from the complex.
