The Global Precipitation Measurement mission Core satellite successfully completed vibration testing in July 2013 at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. The tests ensure that the spacecraft can withstand the vibrations it will experience when launched. The GPM Core satellite will be launched aboard a Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency H-IIA rocket early in 2014. During testing, GPM sat on a specialized mobile platform and was abruptly moved back and forth.

This photograph shows the Core satellite attached to the “shaker table” during its horizontal vibration testing.
