NASA’s Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory also witnessed the March 5, 2013, CME from the side of the sun – Earth is far to the left of this picture. While the SOHO images show a halo CME in which it cannot be determined whether the CME is moving toward or away from Earth, this image taken by the STEREO Ahead spacecraft, shows the CME clearly moving away from Earth.
