The GOES program is a key element of National Weather Service (NWS) operations providing continuous satellite monitoring of the Earth’s environment for weather forecasting, storm warning, and meteorological research. The GOES program is composed of two geostationary satellites monitoring the east and west coasts of the United States and two satellites in storage orbits for use in the case of outages.
