The International Space Station received its first crew, comprised of astronauts from Russia and the US. The ISS communicates continuously with the Earth via the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS) on Ku-, S- and UHF bands. The ISS is also able to communicate with the Russian stations for a portion of the orbit.
