System-Wide Safety Hosts Panel at Crosscutting Meeting

NASA System-Wide Safety (SWS) project members recently participated with industry leaders in a panel session discussing the concept of an In-Time Aviation Safety Management System. The December 2022 event drew more than 100 people via an online forum or by watching on YouTube.

As part of the Advanced Air Mobility Ecosystem Working Groups’ Crosscutting Working Group, the session provided insight into key topics of interest within the aviation industry and opinions on near-term wins and long-term visions coming together to transform the global airspace.

The gathering included a brief overview by Dr. Lance Prinzel, SWS senior technical advisor. Michael Vincent, SWS associate project manager, moderated the discussion. Panelists included Dr. Kyle Ellis, SWS deputy project manager; Jim Ackerson from the NASA Aeronautics Research Institute; Dr. Deborah Kirkman from the Flight Safety Foundation; and Dr. Paul Krois from Crown Consulting.

Engagements like this help NASA shape its research to best address industry needs while answering key questions from government regulators.
