July 23, 2014 marks the 15th anniversary of the launch of the Chandra X-ray Observatory. Launched aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia from Kennedy Space Center on July 23, 1999, Chandra took its place among NASA’s “Great Observatories” and with its unique capability for producing sub-arcsecond X-ray images, it has revealed stunning discovery after stunning discovery. The Chandra program is managed by NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama and is operated by the Smithsonian’s Astrophysical Observatory in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
