White Sands Test Facility’s Sustainable Acquisition Team received the 2016 GreenGov Purchasing Power Award. The Presidential Award honors exceptional federal personnel, teams, agencies, projects, facilities, and programs that exemplify the charge to lead by example in sustainability.
The award winning team that spanned two contracts and three functional departments was formed to improve sustainable acquisition at the site. Procurement, Logistics, and Environmental department employees identified software capabilities needed to facilitate the purchasing process. The Environmental department added capabilities to the Sustainability Application to integrate resources, compliance documentation, metrics reporting and management of green purchasing. The tool provides
- A list of green products available for order,
- Captures data on purchases, and
- Tracks compliance with sustainability requirements.
With real-time data, NASA’s Sustainability Program team members can now track performance on green purchasing goals from their desktops.
