Launch Photography the Focus of June 9 NASA Visitor Center Presentation

Have you wondered how photographers get those really cool shots of rockets at launch and in flight?

Launch Range Photography – Tips and Tricks is the topic of discussion from 5 to 6 p.m., Thursday, June 9, at the NASA Wallops Flight Facility Visitor Center.

Wallops Optical Systems Manager Jim Mason-Foley will show attendees how professionals take the award-winning photos of rocket launches conducted at Wallops and sites throughout the world.

While some think it’s a matter of pure luck, it’s much more than that. During the presentation, Mason-Foley will provide tips on lighting, apertures and shutter speeds, secrets behind F-stops, DSLR versus point and shoot cameras and much more.

The NASA Visitor Center, located on Va. Rt. 175 about six miles from U. S. Route 13 and five miles from Chincoteague, is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for normal operations. Admission is free.
