Title: Sonic Booms in Atmospheric Turbulence (SonicBAT)
Designer: Amanda Spakes/AFRC Graphics
Year the patch was created: 2015
Explanation or back story: As part of the Commercial Supersonic Technology Project, SonicBAT investigated the effect of low-altitude turbulence on the loudness of sonic booms hitting the ground using an F/A-18 aircraft to generate booms and a TG-14, ground microphone array, and weather equipment to record the booms and weather data.
