NASA’s 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA) with Space Shuttle Discovery mounted on top flew at about 1,500 feet altitude over the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area (in background) on Tuesday, April 17, 2012. The fly-over, coordinated with the Federal Aviation Administration, occurred near the conclusion of a ferry flight from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida to the Dulles International Airport to deliver the shuttle to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum’s Udvar-Hazy Center adjacent to Dulles in Chantilly, VA, where is it now part of the museum’s permanent exhibit.April 17, 2012
