Geotail was the first spacecraft launched as part of the International Solar Terrestrial Physics (ISTP) program to study the relationship between the Sun-Earth space environment over an extended period of time. The European Space Agency and Japan’s Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS) partnered with NASA on this program. Other missions launched with this program include: Wind (launched November 1994), Solar Heliospheric Observatory ((SOHO) – launched December 1995), Polar (launched February 1996), and Cluster (launched in July 2000).
