Tingle Remembered as First Stennis Space Center Employee

Margaret A. (McCormick) Tingle, the first employee hired at NASA's John C. Stennis Space Center. Margaret A. (McCormick) Tingle, the first employee hired at NASA’s John C. Stennis Space Center, passed away Jan. 13, 2011 at Fairfax (Va.) Nursing Home. She was 92.
Tingle was proud to have served the federal government. Her first full day at Stennis Space Center, then known as Mississippi Test Operations, was Nov. 20, 1962, the day the American flag and NASA’s colors were first raised at the facility.
In her work at Stennis, Tingle conducted community outreach to help area residents understand the positive impact of the NASA installation. She spoke of her experiences often.
Tingle was preceded in death by husband, Ernest, and six sibling. She is survived by two children. She is interned at Long Beach City Cemetery.
