Doing Business with Wallops

The Antares ORB-1 rocket launched January 9, 2014, from NASA Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia.

The Spaceport Development Office at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility is the primary point of entry for partners seeking to engage with the Wallops community. The office collaborates with the Virginia Spaceport Authority expand launch opportunities for small-, medium-, and intermediate-class vehicles and guides support for test‑range activities that benefit the nation. The Spaceport Development Office also leverages partnerships with commercial, federal, and state organizations to enhance capabilities across the Wallops spaceport and test range community, benefiting all users.  

Benefits of working with Wallops

  • Over eight decades of flight test experience and launch range management, enabling over 16,000 successful suborbital rocket launches. 
  • Instrumented launch range consisting of vehicle and payload telemetry, command and control, multi-object and precision tracking radar, weather forecasting, sea and air surveillance, as well as payload recovery capability. 
  • Downrange instrumentation in Bermuda and off-axis tracking capabilities in North Carolina. 
  • “One-stop-shop” for design, manufacturing, and testing of suborbital payloads.  
  • Active federal airfield and access to restricted-use airspace available for UAS and aircraft testing, as well as logistical hub for the aerospace sector. 
  • Alignment with Kennedy Space Center and Space Force’s Space Launch Delta 45 provides continuity across national spaceport operations.
