Dr. Xia Cai
Chief Scientist, Space Weather Program - Implementation Office, Science Directorate, NASA Langley Research Center
Dr. Cai is proud to serve as the Chief Scientist of NASA Space Weather Program – Implementation Office at NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC), a position she has held since August 2025. Before that, she enjoyed working with participants and end users of NASA DEVELOP as the Chief Program Scientist. In that role, she helped to demonstrate how NASA Earth observations can be used to address environmental concerns identified by communities. Previously, she led the development of Level 3 cloud products for NASA CALIPSO mission as a Senior Research Scientist. She joined NASA LaRC from Virginia Tech in 2014 after spending several years conducting space weather research as a Research Scientist and completed her training as an NSF Geospace Environment Modeling Postdoctoral Research Fellow. Xia obtained her Ph.D. degree in Atmospheric and Space Science in 2007 from the University of Michigan.
During her spare time, Xia likes folk dance, yoga and camping.
