Professional Biography

Steven Beard is the Deputy Division Chief for the Aviation Systems Division at NASA Ames Research Center. Prior to serving as the acting division chief, Steve was the branch chief for the Aerospace Simulation Research and Development Branch at NASA Ames for more than eight years and has successfully delivered numerous airspace operations simulations and aircraft handling quality research results. Steve joined NASA as a civil servant in 2000 after having previously worked for a local defense contractor.  Steve has had many roles in his NASA career including mechanical design engineer, Space Shuttle simulation engineer, Vertical Motion Simulator (VMS) facility manager, and Principal Investigator researching simulator motion fidelity. Steve is an active member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Modeling and Simulation Technical Committee, where he has held multiple leadership positions. He is also an assistant scoutmaster for a local boy scout troop.
