Experience

Dr. McCarty has more than 15 years’ experience in applications of Earth observations and geospatial and data science to accurately quantify wildland and human-caused fire management and emissions, agriculture and food security, climate change impacts and adaptation, and land-cover/land-use change. She is the author/co-author of more than 40 peer-reviewed journal articles, 12 peer-reviewed conference proceedings, 5 book chapters, 5 technical reports, 5 data citations, and 1 NASA Technology Transfer. Dr. McCarty is a member of the NASA Land-Cover/Land-Use Change Science Team and was a member of the NOAA/NASA FIREX-AQ field campaign and the NASA Hysperspectral Infrared Imager (HyspIRI) Airborne campaign. She is an invited U.S. contributor to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories (TFI) Expert Meetings on Short-Lived Climate Forcers (SLCFs), the Arctic Council’s Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme’s Expert Group on SLCFs, and the European Commission’s EU Action on Black Carbon Action. Her published fire emission methodologies have been used by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for the U.S. Greenhouse Gas Inventory and National Emissions Inventory.

Wildland and prescribed fires, fire emissions, climate change, air quality, agriculture and food security, landscape change science, natural resource and fire management, remote sensing theory, field methods for remote sensing campaigns, terrestrial ecology.
